“The real issue for me is creating the environment in the state for the private sector to grow and to bring the jobs here,” said Onorato, 49, of Pittsburgh. To that end, the former Pittsburgh city councilman and former Allegheny County controller has proposed restructuring the corporate tax code to make the state more attractive to prospective businesses.
Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato led the Democratic gubernatorial field in the endorsement vote by the Chester County Democratic committee Saturday morning. "Obviously we can see the amount of time we have spent in the southeast and the field effort we have here were reflected in today's results," Onorato said. "This shows the momentum my campaign has, and this shows where this campaign is going."
“Dan Onorato is the only candidate for Governor who knows what it takes to help lead and manage a large economy in difficult times,” United Steelworkers International president Leo Gerard said in a statement. “As Allegheny County Executive, Dan invested in innovative technologies that transformed supposedly outdated industries into the new frontiers for job creation.”

United Steelworkers will endorse Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato for governor on Wednesday. It is the second major labor endorsement Mr. Onorato has received in his bid for the Democratic nomination. A state wide Teamsters group gave him their backing earlier this month.

Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato officially kicked off his petition drive for Pennsylvania governor Tuesday.
The locals - SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, 32BJ and Workers United Pennsylvania Joint Board - represent workers in the health care, building services, laundry, food service and hospitality industries. The unions cited Onorato's support for working families, including prevailing-wage legislation covering county projects and his advocacy of broadening access to affordable health care, among other issues.
“Pennsylvania’s working families need a leader who will fight to bring and keep good jobs in Pennsylvania,” Gabe Morgan, 32BJ’s western Pennsylvania director, said in a statement. “Onorato knows what it takes to bring good jobs into the community and lift people out of poverty.”
"From the first time I met him and heard his message, it hit so close to home for me because he has completely done everything with success that we are trying to do in Luzerne County, and that is to cut costs and streamline government," Petrilla said.
With a total of $6.5 million on hand – Allegheny County Commissioner Dan Onorato leads the Democratic pack by a wide margin.
Dan Onorato's campaign had $6.5 million at the end of 2009 — considerably more than any other gubernatorial candidate in either party, according to a summary of its campaign finance report.
