By now, many of the world's leaders attending next month's G-20 summit should be familiar with the story of Pittsburgh's economic turnaround. In case they're not, a series of welcome billboards, utility pole signs and banners will drape empty Downtown storefronts, buildings on Mount Washington and businesses in the Strip District to tell the story, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato said yesterday.

As he walked through the Phipps Conservatory in Oakland yesterday, Karl Matthias Klauser could say with certainty that his first day in Pittsburgh blew away his expectations but wasn't sure how the city's approaching global close-up would affect its future. "The general impression by driving through town is that it's basically regenerated," said the spokesman for the German Embassy. He was among some 200 representatives of countries invited to next month's G-20 summit who were in town for a walk-through of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and other event sites. "The convention center seems to be extremely modern and a very good location to do things like that. ... The Pittsburgh people, they are extremely excited and forthcoming."

Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato raised about $840,000 in the past two months, ramping up a campaign cash machine that already was far ahead of his likely rivals in the 2010 governor's race.
Kicking off the first in a series of tours leading up to the G-20 economic summit, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl visited Bayer's Robinson plant Thursday in an effort to highlight Western Pennsylvania as a global capital of environmental and economic "sustainability."
Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato today announced 13 collection sites for “Gear for Grades,” an effort to collect and distribute school supplies to underprivileged and homeless children in our region.
Gov. Ed Rendell on Monday let a not-so-small political prediction slip: He thinks Dan Onorato will be the Keystone State’s next governor.

Reaching across the state, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato has won the endorsements of a pair of influential state senators from suburban Philadelphia in his bid for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2010.

In their likely match up for the gubernatorial votes in western Pennsylvania, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato already has one huge advantage over his political rival, Auditor General Jack Wagner: money.

A little more than two weeks ago, White House officials contacted Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and other officials with two questions: Would they be interested in hosting an international event and could they keep it a secret?
