“We are very excited about the financial support the campaign has received from across Pennsylvania,” said Campaign Manager Kevin Kinross.  “We’ve raised over $9 million dollars since we began the campaign and have more than $6.7 million cash-on-hand at the end of March.  These resources have allowed the campaign to develop an extensive field effort that, combined with our tremendous grassroots support, led to the collection of more than 20,000 signatures, roughly as many as were collected by the other three candidates combined.  The campaign has also collected more than $900,000 since the beginning of January, and with continued donations from throughout the state, we are confident we will be successful in our campaign to elect Dan Onorato as the next Governor of Pennsylvania.”
“Reading Area Community College exemplifies the collaboration with local and regional businesses that my plan implements statewide,” Onorato said, “We need to ensure that we are developing a workforce that suits the new economy.  Developing collaborative efforts between community colleges and local employers, as I did in Allegheny County, will do more than help people find good, family-supporting jobs.  It will also make Pennsylvania more attractive for potential employers and help us compete in a changing global economy."
"If Tom Corbett were Governor, millions of dollars of funding would have gone to communities in other states, leaving us with fewer cops on McKeesport's streets," Brewster said.  "It's that lack of knowledge and experience in running a large government that makes Tom Corbett unfit to take charge of Pennsylvania."
“Projects like the Scranton Enterprise Center, which help new businesses thrive in their first few crucial years, are essential to our state’s economy," said Onorato.  "As Pennsylvania’s next Governor, it will be a priority to create more incentives like what is offered at the Enterprise Center to encourage new businesses to start in Pennsylvania and stimulate local economies."
"Pennsylvania families expect real solutions to health reform.  But, instead of offering constructive policies, Tom Corbett is engaging in a taxpayer-funded political stunt with the goal of denying more people coverage and making affordable health care less accessible.
"As the only candidate who has managed a large economy, Dan has the executive experience to lead Pennsylvania through these tough times and bring us back to prosperity," said Alex Reber, Dauphin County Democratic Committee Candidates Chair.  "Dan is not only the best candidate for Pennsylvania - he also has the best chance of victory in November."
“We interviewed every candidate who was interested in our support,” PSEA President James P. Testerman said. “In the end, we recommended the candidate who most shared our vision for education, and on issues that matter to our members. Dan believes, as our members do, that education is essential to the economic security of Pennsylvania families, and a quality education system begins with state government living up to its responsibility to fund public schools.”
"We have seen firsthand Dan's compassion for the working men and women of our area," said Jim Hollis, Secretary and Treasurer of the Johnstown Building and Construction Trades.  "We have every reason to expect that his compassion will carry over into the Governor's office."
“The Wilkes-Barre Innovation Center is a prime example of what I would like to create across the state to help foster economic growth," said Onorato.  "If elected, I would expand on the Center’s ideas and bring them to more locations to encourage new companies to locate in our communities."
“To effectively fight crime and end the cycle of violence, we must also focus on prevention,” Onorato said.  “From early childhood education to economic and workforce development, we must recognize and address the contributing factors that increase criminal behavior.”

Dan Onorato Endorsed by Three SEIU Unions

Dan Onorato Endorsed by Three SEIU Unions
Endorsement Another Sign of Onorato's Growing Momentum

PITTSBURGH: Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato was endorsed today for Governor by three local Service Employees International Unions (SEIU), SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, 32BJ and Workers United PA Joint Board.  The unions represent more than 43,000 workers across Pennsylvania in health care, building service, food service, laundry and hospitality industries.  The endorsement is the latest sign of Onorato's growing momentum in the new year.

"I am enormously pleased to receive the support from SEIU [Locals]," said Onorato.  "SEIU has been a force for progressive policy and with their support, I hope to not only win this year, but to begin to make the fundamental change that Pennsylvania, its workers and families need, expect and deserve."

Recently, Onorato announced his support for legislation to ensure good jobs are created at County-subsidized developments and throughout the County's service contracts.  A prevailing wage bill was passed with a unanimous vote recently by the Pittsburgh City Council.

"Pennsylvania's working families need a leader who will fight to bring and keep good jobs in Pennsylvania," said Gabe Morgan, 32BJ Western Pennsylvania Director.  Across the state, 32BJ represents 16,000 property service workers, including commercial cleaners, security officers, school maintenance workers and cafeteria workers.  "Onorato knows what it takes to bring good jobs into the community and lift people out of poverty."

"Our members see the state's health care crisis from the front lines every day," said Neal Bisno, President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania.  SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania is the state's largest union of nurses and health care workers, representing over 20,000 caregivers in hospitals, nursing homes, home care and State health facilities.  "From registered nurses in hospitals to home care attendants in seniors' homes, health care workers want a leader who understands that high quality affordable health care is part of the solution to our economy."

The three SEIU unions, known for their strength in mobilizing members and voters to support endorsed candidates, are promising a voter outreach campaign, including mailings, door-to-door canvassing outreach and member mobilization in support of Onorato's election.  During the 2008 elections, the three unions were part of a larger SEIU program through which staff, volunteers and members door-knocked and called more than 1 million households in support of President Obama and other progressive candidates.

Onorato has already received the endorsement of Democratic leaders from across the Commonwealth, including Congressman Patrick Murphy, State Senators Daylin Leach and Andy Dinniman, State Representative Mike Gerber, Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, Easton Mayor Sal Panto and 12 southwestern county commissioners.  He also received the endorsement of the Teamsters last week.
