Born in the humble coal mining mountains of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania,
Scott Conklin has the right work ethic that will bring change to our
state’s government. Scott is uniquely qualified to help Dan Onorato reform
Harrisburg. His experience and expertise are perfectly suited to take on
the three key duties of the Lieutenant Governor.
Lieutenant Governor’s responsibilities:
Presiding over the Pennsylvania Senate
In 2006, after becoming disgusted with the legislature's vote to raise
their own pay, Scott decided to run for a seat in the Pennsylvania House
of Representatives to help clean up Harrisburg. He was elected
overwhelmingly and wasted no time in getting to work.
While serving in the
House, Scott Conklin pushed for over 30 different reform measures. He
supported bills to cut the size and cost of the legislature. Scott also
supported legislation to make elections more competitive by eliminating
partisan redistricting and to improve access to voting for all
Pennsylvanians – especially independent voters. Scott Conklin has worked
to improve the lives of working families and is ready to meet the
challenges of our 21st century economy. He is the only candidate with the
legislative experience necessary to preside over the Senate. Most
importantly, Scott will help push Dan Onorato’s vision for Pennsylvania
through the legislature.
Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA)
As Centre County Commissioner, Scott made it his top priority to make sure
his county was ready in case of emergency. He worked very closely with his
emergency management staff to learn what their needs are in times of
distress. Scott was selected as chairman of the Centre County Terrorism
Task Force following the horrific acts of September 11, 2001. He knows
what our first responders need to protect the people and he wants to lend
his experiences to Dan Onorato in order to keep Pennsylvania ready.
Presiding over Pennsylvania’s Pardon Board
Scott has a wealth of experience dealing with Pennsylvania’s criminal
justice system. As Centre County Commissioner Scott was given the honor of
chairing the State-wide Board of Corrections. He worked on prison
overcrowding, oversaw the construction of Centre County’s current prison
facilities and effectively dealt with issues facing our prison population
and their families. Scott Conklin knows our correction systems inside and
out. He knows what works and what doesn’t. Scott Conklin is uniquely
qualified to oversee the State Pardon Board.
Finally….
Scott Conklin is a carpenter by trade. He built his own construction
business and after several years in the private sector, He entered public
service. He is involved in a number of community organizations including
the Elks and the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County. Scott
and his wife Terri own Conklin’s Corner gift mall and are the proud
parents of a son, Spencer.
Scott Conklin is running for Lieutenant Governor because he has the right
experience that Pennsylvania needs. He shares Dan Onorato's determination
to reform Harrisburg and revitalize Pennsylvania's economy.
